Milwaukee Man Faces Severe Child Abuse Charges After Throwing Baby in Video Game Rage
A Milwaukee man, Jalin A. White, has been charged with severe child abuse after allegedly throwing an 8-month-old baby boy against a wall in a fit of rage while playing a basketball-themed video game. White, aged 20, faces charges of child abuse causing great bodily harm and child neglect, with a $100,000 bond set for his release from the Milwaukee County Jail.
Details of the Incident
According to court documents, the incident occurred at White’s home on the 7000 block of 42nd Street, near Good Hope Road in Milwaukee, on Tuesday. White, who is unemployed, was watching the child, identified as JW, while the mother went to work. Upon her return, the mother found the baby in a disturbing condition, showing signs of labored breathing and a twitching right arm. White allegedly became aggressive when she attempted to take the baby, demanding she hand him over. Concerned for the child's health, the mother sought help from her father, who advised calling 911.
Medical professionals found that the baby had suffered extensive injuries, including skull fractures, six broken ribs, and a previously healed broken collarbone. Doctors have expressed grave concern for the baby's survival, with authorities reporting the infant’s condition as critical.
Conflicting Accounts and White's Admission
Initially, White gave inconsistent accounts of the baby’s injuries, suggesting that the child may have fallen from an air mattress. However, authorities noted that the injuries did not match this explanation. White later confessed to throwing the baby against the wall out of frustration during a video game, stating he was upset about trailing in NBA2K. According to his statement, “My son hit his head on the wall. He hit his head hard on the wall, bro … It was a loud hard wall.”
Potential Homicide Charge and Legal Consequences
Assistant District Attorney Madeline Witte described the incident as an extreme act of violence against a vulnerable child. Should the baby succumb to his injuries, White could face an upgraded homicide charge, carrying a potential life sentence if convicted. As of now, White faces up to 60 years in prison for the child abuse charges alone. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
Additionally, the criminal complaint suggests that the child’s mother may face charges related to the incident, though further details are yet to be released.
This tragic case highlights the dangerous consequences of uncontrolled anger and the legal consequences of child abuse. It serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of children and the devastating impact of violent outbursts.
